Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University) is a deemed university in India accredited 'A' by NAAC.〔Recently, the university received an 'A' grade for from National Assessment and Accreditation Council. 〕 The university is spread across South India in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The university headquarters is at Ettimadai , about 22 km from Coimbatore City. In 2011, Nobel laureate Dr Leland H. Hartwell joined Amrita University as an Adjunct faculty. Inspired by the Chancellor, academicians from all over the world have left careers elsewhere to join Amrita University. The Vice-Chancellor of the university is P. Venkat Rangan, a notable Indian computer scientist, who founded the Multimedia Labs at University of California, San Diego.
